A Prize for a Physicist of IPM

Prof. H. Rafii-Tabar"The first national conference on nano-technology, "Nanotechnology the Next Industrial Revolution", was held during March 5 - 6, 2002. The conference was organized by the Technology Cooperation Office of the President. Several hundred scientists and students from various universities and research institution across the country attended the two-day conference. The National Nano-technology Prize for the Iranian scientists residing in Iran was given to Hashem Rafii-Tabar, Professor of Computational Condensed Matter Physics and the deputy head of the School of Physics at IPM for his work in the fields of Nano-science and Nanotechnology in Iran. Professor Rafii-Tabar is the head of the National Committee for the Advancement of Nano-technolgy, affiliated to the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology".

National Committee to Establish Nano-Technology in Iran

At the initiative of the Research Department of the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology (MSRT), a National Committee to Study the Development of Nano-Technology in Iran was officially launched in February. The Committee is headed by Professor Hashem Rafii-Tabar, an IPM research physicist and the vice-head of its School of Physics, and includes academicians from various universities. The Committee began its work in February and has produced its report which will be published by MSRT shortly. To establish the emerging fields of nano-science and nano-technology , known as the third scientific-industrial revolution, in Iran a list of research projects, based on the available resources within the country, is being compiled and research scientists will be invited to share in the implementation of these projects.
