IPM researchers publish an innovative method to produce hydrogen

Hydrogen is an energy carrier with potential applications in mobility and chemical industries. Dr. Dabirian and his collaborators at the School of Physics of IPM have developed a device for generating hydrogen by splitting water from the energy of the sun. This device is based on an established crystalline silicon solar cell technology, allowing its scale-up for large-scale production. They have developed innovative nano-catalysts and stabilization techniques to drive water splitting reaction only using sunlight energy with a solar-to-hydrogen efficiency of >11.5%. The research is published in ACS Applied Materials and Interfaces journal (impact factor: 8.456) and can be reached at https://pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/acsami.9b22622
